Mystic Independent Theater is pleased to present a wonderful film, Un capitalisme sentimental, brought to us by Marc-Antoine Bédard, of the Cultural Affairs and Cultural Development in New England for the Government of Québec. It is here for a limited time, and is a must see!

Through inventive set design (think Hollywood musical meets German expressionism) and ironic melodrama, this dramatic comedy offers an alternative explanation for Black Tuesday, the fateful day when world financial markets collapsed.

Un capitalisme sentimental, is a fantasy film about the heady days before the 1929 stock market crash. Its heroine, the fairly unremarkable and naïve Fernande Bouvier, flees to Paris to be an artist, meets a French bohemian who becomes her lover and introduces her to high-rolling American businessmen – one of whom bets he can make millions on her in the stock market. Both giddy musical and prescient tragedy, the film puts well-known history in a new light.

Ironic, metaphorical, musical, funny, political, visually stunning, Un Capitalisme Sentimental is all that, as well as an homage to classic movies from a true cinema fanatic.
