TALKING WITH THE DALAI LAMA is a never-before-seen audience with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama that touches on topics we have never heard him discuss before. The Dalai Lama is a great storyteller and from his living room in-exile, in Dharamsala, India, it’s as if he’s speaking to everyone.

“With extraordinary depth, humor and intimacy H.H. spoke with me about his life, meditation, enlightenment, science, emptiness and compassion, and about Buddhism in the West.”—Director, John Halpern.

Some of his views are surprising, even shocking, as example: “To change religion is very harmful sometimes...It may create more confusion!”

Talking With the Dalai Lama

His Holiness the Dalai Lama addresses a variety of rarely discussed topics related to the current state of Buddhism in a live discussion held in the Buddhist high priest’s living room in Dharamsala, India.–NY TIME OUT

His Holiness explains the faith

By Joshua Land
Talking with the Dalai Lama”, devotes its entire length to a wide-ranging Q&A with Tibetan Buddhism’s leader. Radiating spiritual discipline and a profound sense of laughter in both films, His Holiness is surely his faith’s best advertisement.

John Halpern's Bio

Throughout his 35 year career as both an artist and filmmaker John Halpern has oriented his work toward evoking a social-creativity.

Early in 1977, Halpern and fellow "Art Corporation" members scaled the largest bridges in New York City, achieving the group's goal to "keep terrorism out of the press for one day" and "to offer a new media content to the press and public." BRIDGING, the event, won Best News of the Year, 1977. One year later, Greenpeace, was launched.

In summer 1990 Halpern sealed himself a hermetic glass structure where he breathed 1x per minute for 10 unbroken days- 24/10 (BREATHSCULPTURE an event dedicated to Joseph Beuys). This hallmark event held a spot in world news for several weeks. It represented to Halpern a reunion of human and nature, a meditation on equanimity, a retreat from conventional, societal life, personal renewal and social empowerment. He created two other big events and called the trilogy ART FOR THE 21ST CENTURY.

His JOSEPH BEUYS / TRANSFORMER, 1980, REFUGE, 2005, TALKING WITH THE DALAI LAMA, 2006, and other films try to evoke viewers' individual curiosity, to empower insight and a balanced creative intervention with society, through understanding mind.

Halpern's films offer audiences a view into the inner, human landscape of creativity and "spiritual ecology."

Lately, Halpern has been requested to speak at seminars and lectures about Spiritual Ecology. Halpern uses film clips of his events and documentaries to explain the idea behind Spiritual Ecology. He examines the journeys, struggles and successes of those such as Joseph Beuys, former Nazi, world renown avante-garde sculptor and co-founder of Europe's Green Party, the Dalai Lama exiled leader of Tibet, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and others as examples of Spiritual Ecology in action.

Spiritual Ecology may be a process of seeing the ecology of the mind, seeing our situation as it is and recognizing an innate ability to create and alter our individual and societal destinies.
